Katie Holmes gets serious

Keen to leave her Dawson's Creek days behind and carve out a career as a serious actress, Katie Holmes has headed to the theatre.

Mrs Tom Cruise landed in New York last week to prepare for her latest high-brow challenge.

The 29-year-old will star in the Broadway debut of All My Sons – a play written by Marilyn Monroe's one-time husband Arthur miller.

Marking a change from her last job as Batman's love interest in Batman Begins, Holmes will play a woman who visits the family of her boyfriend who went missing during army operations.

Husband Tom hasn't let his wife completely out of his sight and will be moving over to New York, alongside daughter Suri, to stay with Katie in New York for the 16-week run.

Eric Falkenstein, producer of the play told Us magazine that the acting on the stage is perfect for Katie as she's "not the celebrity type".

We wonder if close pals David and Victoria Beckham will be making a trip to New York to see the play.
