Scarlett Johansson has put paid to one of Hollywood's most enigmatic fables of recent years - that she once got intimate with actor Benicio Del Toro in an elevator.
It was widely rumoured that the pair got steamy following the 2004 Oscars ceremony at a post-awards bash at Los Angeles' Chateau Marmont hotel.
At the time, neither Scarlett nor Benicio denied the allegation, which helped to fuel the myth and allowed them to bask in its publicity.
But the 23-year-old beauty has now denied the rumour, saying it was sparked after a quote was taken out of context.
Scarlett told OK! magazine: "I never had sex with Benicio Del Toro in an elevator. It was a sarcastic quote that I unfortunately gave to a journalist and it was taken out of context.
"If you've ever been to the Chateau Marmont elevator, you'll know you can barely stand, let alone do anything like that. But I'm not one for sex in public places - save it for the bedroom."
