Royal wedding 'a low-key affair'

The eldest of the Queen's grandsons married his long-term girlfriend at a special ceremony in Windsor this weekend.

Peter Phillips, the son of Princess Anne, made Canadian Autumn Kelly his wife at St George's Chapel inside the historic castle.

The 30-year-old royal, who is currently eleventh-in-line to the throne, was prepared to give up his claim to the crown in order to wed his Catholic love.

However, just a few weeks before the wedding, Autumn renounced her faith and joined the Church of England to save her man his birthright.

The wedding was a low-key affair, with more tourists turning up to see the changing of the guard than the first royal wedding in several years.

Phillips has been known to keep out of the limelight and does not hold a royal title or take part in royal duties. Since graduation from university he has worked for a living, meeting his bride while working on the race track at Monaco.

The modern royal wedding has raised a few eyebrows, especially after the happy couple were reportedly paid half a million pounds to pose for a 19-page spread in a glossy magazine.
