Simon says Britney was in awe of him

Britney Spears may be a global superstar who has been in the limelight for a decade with a pop career that most artists could only dream of, but apparently, she was just awestruck when she met Simon Cowell.

Forget the fact that she's dated Justin Timberlake and collaborated with Madonna - it was the cubic-haired, high-waisted trouser-wearing Simon who really made the singer's jaw drop, according to the X Factor judge himself.

Denim-loving Brit's so-called "awe" might help to explain her lacklustre performance on the TV talent show on Saturday night.

Simon told US radio show host Ryan Seacrest: "To be fair, and this may be a bit egotistical, I think she was in awe of me.

"She was just staring at me. I said 'Touch me, I'm human' and I think that broke the ice."
