Scarlett says America is "sexist and racist"

Scarlett Johansson is an all-American gal, but she still thinks her country has a long way to go in terms of achieving equality.

The gorgeous 23-year-old actress has been a vocal supporter of US Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, who managed to pip his rival Hillary Clinton to the post as the party's pick in June.

Now Scarlett has said that the American media are still hostile to the idea of having a black or female leader and that she was shocked by some of the things she read and heard.

She told Cosmo Girl: "We still live in a country that's sexist and racist. Those are issues that we deal with whether we want to ignore it or not.

"Seeing how the media portrayed Hillary with unbelievable sexism - some of the things that people were saying were just so overwhelming. You just couldn't believe the names that they were calling her!"
